Distressed
by further wars’ futility,
It seems the
measure of a country’s worth
Are the
materials in its rare earth.
So, utility
by utility
It can be
closed down, disregarding lives lost.
Meanwhile,
let wages fall as inflation
Rips
through, blighting nation after nation,
And famine
is an acceptable cost
It seems.
Fossilised industries persist
In unleashing
primeval carbon stored
In this rare
Earth: its yields can’t be ignored
For people
to live and not just exist.
Yet, capital’s
advocates are untroubled,
As long as
their dividends are doubled.
