Protests Persist in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankans continue their demonstrations while the former president, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, flees the country to the Maldives.

The offices of the prime minister were occupied and ransacked by angry crowds as they had done some days earlier to the presidential mansion. Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has declared a state of emergency and has told the military to do "whatever is necessary to restore order". Troops formed a protective cordon around the Parliament building.
