The inane, insane things they say

Kinder Morgan says its submission for its $5.4-billion proposal to the Canadian government to triple the capacity of its pipeline that:
“Pipeline spills can have both positive and negative effects on local and regional economies, both in the short- and long-term. Spill response and cleanup creates business and employment opportunities for affected communities, regions, and cleanup service providers.”

Canada's National Energy Board’s report noted a dozen longterm negative effects of spills, including devastation of fishing stocks, tourist industry, cultural heritage sites, "traditional lifestyles" of aboriginal communities and public health. But still, there is always the benefit of a relative handful of short-term, low-paying, toxic clean-up jobs, according to the oil business!
