Lets Oppose ALL Nationalisms

We have to fight against nationalism," said Juncker, who is the president of the European Commission, the EU's executive branch. "We have the duty not to follow populists but to block the avenue of populists." He added: "Borders are the worst invention ever made by politicians…”

Indeed so and SOYMB blog looks forward to the tumbling down of the walls and the fences of Fortress Europe.

Peter Sutherland, UN Special Representative for International Migration, explained “The only way that we can deal with the migration problem is by having a European policy. If every country simply cowers behind borders and agrees not to cooperate as a result of a response to nationalism then Europe really will be in a mess.” Sutherland then defended comments made by EU President Jean-Claude Juncker after he was attacked over a speech in which he said borders are “the worst invention ever made”. “The reality that he was trying to make clear is that one of the great achievements of Europe was the destruction of borders – destruction of the border between Europe and Eastern Europe when Communism collapsed and the development of a Europe without borders. It’s been crucially important.

Meanwhile, as part of measures to block refugees seeking to enter the country, Hungary erected a vast border fence in the hopes of stopping movement into their borders and Hungarian MEP for the Christian Democratic European Peoples’ Party, Gyorgy Schopflin, has proposed putting pigs' heads on Hungary’s border fences to deter refugees trying to enter the country. Of 177,135 asylum applicants to Hungary in 2015, just 146 were approved, according to government statistics.

Instead of nation-states or transnational trading blocs we could have instead a worldwide socialist society as an alternative way of life. We'll democratically control our own work as society requires and we'll only turn out the best available and possible. We can achieve security, abundance, and fulfillment in a socialist society. Nationalism and socialism are incompatible for a number of reasons. First, the basis of all nationalist theories is that those supposed to make up a “nation” have a common interest. This is not true. In preaching a community of interest between all the members of a supposed “nation”, owners and non-owners, nationalism obscures and diverts attention from this class struggle, thus making that struggle less effective and postponing its final solution through the establishment of socialism.
