The French revolution was the classic bourgeois revolution. During the French Revolution the proletariat of France were used unsparingly by the French bourgeoisie to help overthrow the remnants of feudalism and then, when that object was attained, were themselves thrown contemptuously aside by their bourgeois compatriots.
It was on the night of 4 August 1789 the newly triumphant French National Assembly issued a decree formally abolishing feudalism.
