Using a technical procedural Senate rule, American Republicans thwarted a proposal that would impose a $35 per month cap on out-of-pocket spending on insulin for diabetics.
Some 7 million Americans require insulin daily. A Yale University study found that 14 percent of those insulin users are spending more than 40 percent of their income after food and housing costs on the medicine.
Even if it had passed, the price of insulin remains $300-plus a vial and the uninsured must pay that or die. Protecting the most privileged (the insured) while leaving the most vulnerable (the uninsured) to die is nothing to be applauded.
