People’s Power Is The Solution

As various crises engulfs the world there is only one solution. That solution is the mass struggle of working people to build socialism. The history of the working class has been a history of unremitting struggle against exploitation and oppression by the capitalist class. The capitalist system can only end by the overthrow of the parasitic ruling class by the working class, the creators of all wealth in society. Under the rule of the capitalists, there can be no freedom for the workers – only freedom to be exploited as wage slaves.

This whole business of doing something for working people is disgusting and degrading to the last degree. “What can we do for working people?” resembles a question that might be asked by the owner of a sheep ranch, “What can I do for the sheep?” The real question is, “What can workers do for themselves?”

Working people can organize can cooperate and harmonise to act in concert. What can workers do for themselves? For one, we say the worker can educate him or herself. He or she can read, study, and vote. The majority can win its democratic and social rights only by its own action.  A workers' organisation must represent the interests of the workers in all spheres of activity.

Today we are ruled by a tyranny. The ruling class of capitalist parasites has gone on the offensive against the working people, in an attempt to increase its profits and preserve its position of rule. Industrial and financial barons govern by the rule of profits, denying us the basic democratic and social rights we need. This system of capitalism is set up with one thing in mind – to make the most profits possible for the handful of people who own the big banks and corporations. It is the system under which we, and our parents and grandparents before us, have done all the work. We mine the mines, build the buildings, manufacture all the products: and then get just enough to live on – if we fight hard enough for it! On the other hand the small capitalist class builds up huge fortunes off of our labor and do no work themselves, except running all around the world spending the money that we made for them.

The quality of life for most people is going from bad to worse. With each new day it’s harder to get by. Suffering the most are those at the bottom, And the present system offers no hope for the better. The quality of life for most people is going from bad to worse. And the present system offers no hope for the better. There is no end to wars—one after another. Huge stockpiles of missiles are a constant reminder of the threat of nuclear war. Pollution is destroying our environment—from the water we drink to the air we breathe.

Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats, neither the Tories nor the Labour Party offers any solution. They are only interested in shifting the responsibility and escaping the blame. They all pit white worker against worker in a struggle for jobs, housing, and education. They blame all working people, claiming we eat too much and live too well. They blame people in other countries. They point to a “population explosion” in poor countries as a burden, while remain silent on those the corporations that loot and plunder the resources of these same countries. Their answer is proposals are clear:  deport foreign-born workers; consume less electricity and gasoline, forget about health and safety legislation, don’t rely upon Social Security, but most of all, don’t struggle to defend your living standards. “What’s good for business is good for you, despite the pain.” For the sake of profits it’s perfectly justifiable to lay off tens of thousands of workers, to destroy our environment, or to plunge the country into war, no matter what happens to the welfare and security of the rest of us.

The Socialist Party is campaigning for a new society—a socialist society—where wars, racism, sexual oppression, and all other forms of human degradation and exploitation no longer exist. We believe that this is a realistic goal, and a necessary one if humanity is to survive.
The Socialist Party challenges the existing ownership of wealth,   and   raise   the  question through its daily activity - which class shall own, control and derive benefits of modern industry. The principal lesson is that, by themselves, economic struggle will never solve the problem. The workers are obliged to fight precisely the same struggle again, just to keep close to their present standard of living. It is necessary to take the struggle forwards, to fight not – only for a living wage, but to fight for the complete overthrow of the capitalist system of exploitation, and for the establishment of the working class as the ruling class.

There are no solutions within the capitalist system. Only under socialism do working people have the means to collectively decide the direction their society will take and how they will participate in it.
