Cleaning up the city for Ivanka

Hyderabad, India is the venue of the annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit,  a  meeting of investors and people starting new businesses, and it is set to run from 28 November to 30 November. Ivanka Trump, the First Lady, is attending. India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is also expected to attend.

For the next two months, begging has been made an offence and more than 6,000 people are expected to be detained in a rehabilitation facility, at Chanchalguda Jail. Indian media reported. So far nearly 400 people have been removed from the streets as preparations for the visit continue.

“As per instructions of Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy to make the city beggar-free, we have shifted those in our area to rehabilitation centre,” Goshamahal Assistant Commissioner of Police, Narender Reddy, explained. Hyderabad Police had conducted a similar operation when Bill Clinton visited in 2000.

Anyone found to be violating the ban will be liable for punishment, the exact details of which are unknown.

Ahead of the GES authorities have also repaired roads and re-painted the area.
