American football team, New Orleans Saints, paid players and at least one assistant coach to inflict game-ending injuries on opposing players. "Knockouts" were worth $1,500 and "cart-offs" $1,000, with payments doubled or tripled for the playoffs.
The Washington Redskins also had a bounty system for big hits on opponents, “kill shots” that knocked opposing teams’stars out of a game.
