EU ignores the Syrian refugees

Almost ready to go to war for the “humanitarian” reason to protect Syrian civilians and happy to provide military aid to the rebels, the EU appears very reluctant about actually offering the Syrian refugees a safe haven. Only 10 member states have offered to take in refugees and even then only 12,000, it complains. France has offered 500 places and Spain 30. The UK and Italy have offered no places at all.

The UN estimates almost 2.3 million Syrians have fled to neighbouring countries since March 2011. Syria's internally displaced people are now thought to number 6.5 million.

Amnesty International’s report  criticises the "push-back" operations aimed at halting Syrians travelling from Turkey, noting that the European Commission has provided 228million euros to bolster controls.
