RETURN TO SOCIALISM
This isn't the tree that Jesus cursed
This isn't the tree where Buddha sat
It's only a tree where I recall
the tea, ham and strawberries
in the shade of a Clare garden - 1974.
Served by the peoples' historian.
Now with the toot and stutter of Hythe's light engines
competing for my ears
with the rattle of rifles on the range
I sit and ponder.
" Who owns this tree ? "
Then, as sudden as " enlightenment"
I understand.
Godless at last, I must believe in man again
Keith Chopping, 2011
