12 months ago a Ferrari fatally struck a Bangkok policeman, his body was dragged down the street. Vorayuth Yoovidhya who admitted to the hit and run, is the grandson of the inventor of the Red Bull energy drink and the heir to one of Thailand’s greatest fortunes. He failed to show up at an indictment hearing, the 6th time he had failed to appear in court. He is released on bail of about $15,600. The latest reason being he was on business trip and had the flu and so could not return. Prosecutors said they had dropped charges of speeding against him because the one-year statute of limitations runs out. Vorayuth still faces two other charges, and prosecutors said they would issue a warrant for his arrest.
Pornanand Glanprasert, the older brother of the dead policeman, said “If you are common people like us, I think the case is already finished”. Mr. Vorayuth, he said, “is powerful, has many connections and a lot of money.”
