Population Myth (Two Videos)

  1. It's not a myth that a population of seven billion humans don't fuel demand for more habitat destruction to provide farmers with the land necessary to grow more food for sale with a view to profit. The trend toward smaller families is helping but the greenhouse gas production necessary to feed, house, clothe and tend to their other appetites grows, under the rule of Capital, with their higher standard of commodified living. The time we have left to change the mode of producing and distributing wealth is running out, as the agricultural production of food will be very difficult in the temperatures which are on schedule to increase most especially between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.

  2. The point being made it is a myth - the Malthusian myth - that the numbers of people on the planet is the cause of our poverty and food problem.

Agriculture is a cause of significant carbon emissions but many would say it is the nature of the farming - industrialised plantation monoculture. There are other sustainable methods of growing food.

As for land, that too is not necessarily as limited that pristine forests must be cut down. Alternatives exist.

But it is as you indeed say, climate change exacerbates everything and all solutions may be off the table. Many believe the time has already run out, as you suggest. Not only will government green policies come too late but sadly so will socialism.

It is a dark pessimistic future we face.

Socialist society, however, as a system of mutual aid, nevertheless remains a means to minimise the damage capitalism has inflicted upon the people and the planet
