Bye-bye Bernie, Bring on Biden

 

Having campaigned twice for the Democratic Party nomination to be the president, losing both times to the corporate-candidate, Bernie has bowed out and once again endorses the party-approved politician. Bernie and his supporters such as the Justice Democrats have tried taking over the Democratic Party for many years. It’s not been a new idea and it hasn’t worked in the past

But once more it has sparked another seemingly endless debate on the strategy of voting for the lesser-evil. Lesser-evilism in typical in every election. The electorate is called on weigh up voting for candidate who is in certain ways not as bad as the other contestant.

People, with very few exceptions it seems, cannot escape voting for the lesser-evil giving the message to the party-machine, don’t bother with me, I’ll vote for you regardless.

What lesser evil fail to see are the side effects of such an approach. To win, those supporting the lesser-evil deceive. They self-censor criticism of their favored candidate, they purposefully put a partisan slant on his position which makes it better than it really is. They promote themselves as cheer-leaders for the team, no longer caring about the flaws and weaknesses of who they are promoting. Political truth and intellectual honesty doesn’t prevail. Principles are thrown aside. People begin to understand what has happened and they grow cynical of politics and the compromises.

Voting for the lesser evil is one giant diversion for a genuine movement for peace, justice, and the environment.

Voting either for Joe Biden or Donald Trump is simply the political good cop/bad cop routine
