Where is the compassion?

Two boats carrying about 300 migrants have sank in the 'worst Mediterranean tragedy' so far this year. 150 migrants are feared drowned. Survivors were rescued by fishing boats and sent to detention camps in Libya.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi called on European nations to resume rescue missions. Grandi added that safe ways of passage out of North Africa were needed "before it is too late for many more desperate people."

The easiest and swiftest way is simply for countries to lift the ban on commercial airlines from transporting those without the necessary visas.

Italy's lower house passed a measure that would raise fines for migrant rescue charities that make unauthorized calls at Italian ports.
