William Morris, observed:

“One man with an idea in his head is in danger of being considered a madman: two men with the same idea in common may be foolish, but can hardly be mad; ten men sharing an idea begin to act, a hundred draw attention as fanatics, a thousand and society begins to tremble, a hundred thousand and there is war abroad, and the cause has victories tangible and real; and why only a hundred thousand? Why not a hundred million and peace upon the earth? You and I who agree together, it is we who have to answer that question.”

Despite its small size, the Socialist Party, has the greatest of aspirations, which is to be the vehicle for the emancipation of the working class. Conscious of the correctness of its principles and the soundness of their policy, the Socialist Party asks you to cease to belong to a parties which are now compromised beyond redemption and instead to help carry our ideals into action. The Socialist Party recognises that it is the abolition, not the reform of, capitalism that should be aimed at. In every case, sooner or later, those who support immediate palliative demands have diverted every socialist organisation from their primary purpose. This is inevitable. The fight for immediate amelioration alters the composition of the organisation, depreciates their clear grasp of socialist principles and introduces the disintegrating forces of careerism, opportunism, and the desire to become the government at all costs. Support of such blind-alley activities confuses the minds of the workers by making them think that social problems can be solved within capitalism and without socialism.

The Socialist Party entirely accepts that our fellow-workers should use trade-unions to resist the encroachments of the employers, but it is essential that the workers should realise the limited value of such activity. It is not a service to the workers to foster illusory hopes of permanent betterment. You are poor because the capitalist class own and control your means of living (the land, factories, transport, etc.) and live on the wealth you produce. This is capitalism. Why not end it? Join the Socialist Party, fellow wage-slaves, and help to spread that knowledge that socialism may come in our time, so we can enjoy the fruits of our collective labour.
