A NEW YEAR’S DAY THOUGHT (weekly poem)

A NEW YEAR’S DAY THOUGHT

We share this Earth as common ground,
And yet there is a great divide;
The things we humans need abound,
And yet our little worlds collide.

The wealthy grab more from the poor,
And governments abet that theft;
Society fragments the more,
And more and more are left bereft.

And thus we have black versus white,
And women execrating men;
Crude nationalists who want to fight,
And hatred goes around again.

Humanity could disappear,
That common fear should bind us all;
A future hell is looming near,
We must wake up before the fall.
