Myanmar's mire

Myanmar’s treatment of its Muslim Rohingya minority appears to be a “textbook example” of ethnic cleansing,  Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, a top UN human rights official has said in an address to the United Nations human rights council in Geneva. He denounced the “brutal security operation” against the Rohingya in Rakhine state, which he said was “clearly disproportionate” to insurgent attacks carried out last month.
More than 310,000 people have fled to Bangladesh in recent weeks, with more trapped on the border, amid reports of the burning of villages and extrajudicial killings.  Buddhist nationalists, led by firebrand monks, have operated a long Islamophobic campaign calling for them to be pushed out of the country.
Bangladesh’s foreign minister accused the Burmese government of committing genocide against the Rohingya,  AH Mahmood Ali’s language the strongest yet.

  1. Aung San Suu Kyi leads the party in control of government.
The former Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who spent 15 years under house arrest
and endured repression, leads the party The National League for Democracy and has failed to condemn the treatment of the Rohingya Muslims.
She has claimed there was an "iceberg of misinformation" about the situation in Rakhine(The Washington Post,15-9-17).
When she took office she said her aim was to improve the economy and to make peace with the ethnic armies that have waged long insurgencies in the north and
north-eastern parts of the country(The Washington Post).
It sounds like let's run capitalism first and foremost.
