Trump's Misleads

We are now well-accustomed to Donald Trump's lack of truth in what he says. Justifying his new refuggee admittance policy which has grown to be a de facto muslim ban Trump said, Do you know if you were a Christian in Syria it was impossible, at least very tough to get into the United States? If you were a Muslim you could come in, but if you were a Christian, it was almost impossible...”

If that were true, most of the approximately 5 million Syrian refugees who have fled their country would now be in the U.S. In fact, Syrian refugees – Muslim or otherwise – can’t just come in. Since the Syrian conflict began in April 2011 through December 2016, the U.S. has admitted just 18,306 Syrians, after extreme vetting and long waits.

In fiscal year 2016, the number of Christians (37,347) and adherents of other non-Muslim religions (9,091) exceeded Muslim refugees (38,605) among all nationalities admitted under the U.S. resettlement program, according to State Department statistics.

Since the resettlement program was created in 1980, more than 3 million refugees have been resettled in the United States. Not one has carried out a lethal attack on U.S. soil. (Two Somali refugees attacked crowds in 2016 without killing anyone or inflicting major injuries.)

Trump’s executive order cut the total number of refugees that the United States will take in fiscal year 2017 from 110,000 to 50,000

Scott Arbeiter, president of the resettlement agency World Relief, said that around 70 percent of the people resettled by his organization come to the U.S. for family reunification. “There is going to be a crushing human cost for this,” said Arbeiter, who is also an evangelical Christian pastor.
