Bristol's child poverty

There are more children in Bristol living in poverty now than during the recession, it has been revealed.

Despite the end of the recession, some 22 per cent of Bristol's 97,900 children are still living in the parts of the city classed as the 10 per cent most deprived in England.

That is a three per cent rise from the 19 per cent in 2010 when the country was in dire financial straits.

Statistics from Bristol City Council show 18,900 children live in low-income families in the city, more than the national average of 20 per cent.
