THE DUNG OF THE BUNG--THE PONG OF THE GONG! (weekly poem)

THE DUNG OF THE BUNG--THE PONG OF THE GONG!

David Cameron’s final act as PM was to give honours to his
political cronies and to big donors to the Conservative Party.

Just bung the Tories lots of dough,
And sing from the same sheet,
And honours will eventually,
Fall at your craven feet;
Then if you are a Philistine,
Your life will be complete!

If you’re out for a bright career,
Contribute to their fund,
As non-observance of this fact,
Could leave one being shunned;
In that one’s allocated job,
Could soon be moribund.

It’s done to keep one’s foes at bay,
And cronies on your side,
The politics of everyday,
That always is denied;
However much the powers that be,
Have tap-danced round and lied. (1)

Such tricks are used by all of the,
Political elite,
By Labour and the Liberals too,
To keeps their muckers sweet;
Relying on brown-nosers and
All their inbuilt conceit.

It is, of course, mere vanity,
To be one of these kind,
The type who really do believe,
That God has them in mind;
With a self-satisfied smug glow,
That shines out their behind.

To be seen as a mover or,
A shaker is the drug,
And being ‘part of history’,
Can make one feel so smug;
Because to them without a gong,
One’s just a nameless mug.

(1) Lloyd George sold honours for the equivalent in today’s money
of £310,000 for a knighthood and £1.25 million for a baronetcy.
