THE READERS OF THE DAILY MAIL (weekly poem)

THE READERS OF THE DAILY MAIL

The Daily Mail deliberately plays on the prejudices
of ‘middle England’ to make more profitable sales.

The readers of the Daily Mail,
Can seem a hair-brained lot;
As quoting from it could entail,
One spouting loads of rot!

On immigrants, the view they stress,
Put plainly and direct;
Is, ‘Plan the foreigners egress’,
(Or words to that effect!)

Too many people, they opine,
Are living on this isle; (1)
And this has caused our sad decline,
Which tends to raise their bile.

The Mail, itself, will cuss and snipe,
And coin tales on the hoof;
The barely legal racist tripe,
It publishes is proof. (2)

It’s dose of xenophobic smut,
Is standard bigot feed;
And readers who think with their gut,
Oft swallow what they read!

(1) If Britain had the same population density as The Netherlands,
its population would be 35 million people higher than it is today.
Wealthy Monaco has a population density 70 times that of the UK.

(2) According to ‘Hacked Off’, the Daily Mail has more complaints made
against it than any other newspaper for publishing ‘inaccurate’ stories.
