DON’T CRY FOR KELVIN MCKENZIE!
(Apologies to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.)
Ex-Sun editor, Kelvin McKenzie, has complained that South Yorkshire Police
fed him false details about the Hillsborough Disaster and thus were indirectly
responsible for his scurrilous Sun headline ‘THE TRUTH’ which blamed
‘drunken football fans’ and led to a boycott of the paper on Merseyside.
Don’t cry for Kelvin McKenzie,
‘THE TRUTH’ was his own work;
His arrogance caught up with him,
And made him look a berk!
He didn’t care whom he defamed,
Or whom he would offend;
What goes around then came around,
And got him in the end! (1)
CHORUS
Don’t cry for Kelvin McKenzie,
‘THE TRUTH’ is we never liked you;
Through the reviled days,
Of your existence,
You made us vomit,
So keep your distance!
His views lie somewhere to the right,
Of even Genghis Khan;
And never let the facts intrude,
On a salacious yarn.
He plumbed the depths of journalese, (2)
To sell that rag, The Sun;
The Sun’s now set on Merseyside,
If he’ll forgive the pun!
(1) Since its headline, ‘THE TRUTH’ published after the Hillsborough
Disaster, The Sun’s circulation on Merseyside has plummeted. Many
newsagents refuse to stock it costing N.I. millions of pounds per year.
(2) Kelvin McKenzie as editor of The Sun has been associated with
numerous sensationalist stories which later turned out to be untrue.
