THE THATCHER TRILOGY - Part 3 (poem)

Batty for England! (1)

St. Maggie has ascended now,
Our lives will be a void;
Especially for the miners and,
The countless unemployed.
She privatised most everything,
She even sold her soul;
That’s why the country’s going strong,
With millions on the dole!

As Grantham’s own Miss Hitler but,
Without his homely charm;
She would have rather been the Queen,
So people called her, “Ma’am”. (2)
And her demise evoked the thought,
Of ‘Spitting Image’ skits, (3)
When dossing on rich benefits,
She snuffed it at the Ritz!

A privatised cremation would,
Have brought in quite a bid;
But Finchley Crematorium,
Omitted to “Tell Sid”! (4)
And could not take advantage of,
The low price guarantee;
On gas that’s been available,
Since then to you and me!

The resurrection’s over now,
The Virgin Maggie’s gone;
We’ll never see her like again,
As Britain’s greatest Con.
Now as the M.T. empty pose,
And image starts to sag;
Both former friends now liken her,
To Dracula in drag!

(1) She once described son Mark’s unorthodox
financial affairs abroad as “Batting for England”.

(2) “We have just become a grandmother”!

(3) Satirical TV puppet show axed in 1996.

(4) Gas privatisation, “Tell Sid”.
