Actress and UN special envoy Angelina Jolie William Hague and other political leaders in a four-day summit on ending sexual violence during war. Hague said rape was one of the "great mass crimes" of modern times.
SOYMB thinks Angelina means well but her movement and those who support it clearly have no understanding of the nature of war with their wishful thinking that rules will stop war rape. Angelina seems to believe that you can wage a 'civilised' war in which certain rights can be respected. War is terrible and terrible things happen in war. War brutalises the participants. War itself is so great an evil that it encompasses all the lesser evils of war - of which rape is one.
It's okay to starve people into submission with economic blockades. It is alright to shoot people, bomb people, incinerate people. It's okay to fire missiles into their cities from unmanned drones as they walk the streets, to blow them up in their homes. You can bayonet them, blow them apart with a grenade; drive a tank over them, beat them to death, send them around the world to be tortured, or to be lock them away forever. You can shower them in white phosphorus and contaminate their gene pool them depleted uranium. You can poison their land with chemicals. But sexual violence is not to be permitted.
The hypocritical serial war criminal, Hague said it is only a "weak or inadequate man" that abuses women - a statement that led to cheers. SOYMB adds that it is weak, inadequate men who become politicians, play soldiers and send others to their deaths with a stroke of their pen.
Similarly with 'child soldiers' we have a confusion of rights and wrongs. In the UK, we've seen our kids joining the military youth units at 16 and called it 'giving them a career', allowing soldiers to visit schools in recruitment drives as part of kids' 'education' (11,000 visits in 2011-12). Yet we condemn others for using children as soldiers.
Ending war will end war rape. And the only way to stop war is to end capitalism.
