The Communist Manifesto was first translated into the Thai language in 1953 by the US embassy to persuade Thailand’s government to take a tougher stance against communism by revealing the threat of its ideas.
One of the translators, Chit Phumisak, was sufficiently impressed by the Communist Manifesto's arguments to declare himself a communist whereupon he ended up in jail and was subsequently murdered on release.
