Fact of the Day

The annual study, conducted by Food Banks Canada, indicated that over 833,000 people used food handouts during one snapshot month in 2013.

The figure is 23 percent higher than the reports during the 2008 recession. “During a time of apparent economic recovery, far too many Canadians still struggle to put food on the table,” the study said.

The report cited low-income jobs as the main reason why Canadians are struggling for food.
