The rent crisis

Shelter says the number of people in the UK struggling to pay their rent or mortgage has soared by 44 per cent over the past year, with a fifth of those surveyed, equating to 7.8 million Britons, facing a monthly battle to keep a roof over their heads. 1.4 million people went into 2013 in rent or mortgage arrears, while nearly 1 million people took out a payday loan over the last 12 months to help them cover their mortgage or rent. 2.8 million Britons, dipped into unauthorized overdrafts to pay their way.
