A Toast To Insanity

From Yahoo news:

A bidding war has broken out over a piece of toast believed to have been served to the Prince of Wales for breakfast on the day he married Lady Diana Spencer.
Two bidders fought it out over the telephone for the slice of white toast, which went under the hammer at Charles Hanson Auctioneers in Etwall, Derby.
The winning bidder, based in the UK, eventually paid £230 for the 30-year-old memento.

A spokeswoman for the auction house said: "The slice of toast went to a UK buyer. There were two telephone bidders fighting it out for the slice. It was exciting.
"There was a round of applause when the gavel dropped then it was like 'Oh crumbs... it's sold!'"

More than 750 million people around the world tuned in to see Charles marry Diana in St Paul's Cathedral on July 29 1981. The slice of toast was sold on Thursday on behalf of Rosemarie Smith, from Derby. She took the leftover slice from a tray after visiting her daughter at Buckingham Palace just hours before the royal wedding.

To put this immoral madness into perspective, there are approximately 925 MILLION people in the world today starving through want. Yet here in the West we have an auction for a piece of 31 year old toast selling for £230 followed by a round of applause.
This isn't news, this is a sickening indictment of a system based around profit before need, a gut-wrenching testament to the idiocy of money. If you feel even the slightest twinge of abhorrence, then JOIN us to rid the world forever of such insanity.
