Preventable deaths

Nearly 45,000 people die in the United States each year -- one every 12 minutes -- in large part because they lack health insurance and can not get good care, Harvard Medical School researchers found in a 2009 analysis.

Overall American adults age 64 and younger who lack health insurance have a 40 percent higher risk of death than those who have coverage.

Socialists have acknowledged that NHS made the living standards for some sections of the working class better than they had been under rampant capitalism or would be in a return to a free-market healthcare system.

The inefficiencies of private medical care are costing every single American four whole years of their lives. The NHS is nearly two and a half times more efficient than their ‘free market’ system. This is not to say the NHS is without fault. After all, it’s only average despite the importance the British attach to it. There are 14 countries with more efficient systems and 15 with less – hardly a ringing an endorsement.
