In the Independent we read that Marks & Spencer chief executive Marc Bolland received a pay packet worth £8.8m in the year to the end of March. This is 656 times the amount earned by full-time staff at the bottom of the retail chain, putting their total pay at just 0.15 per cent of Mr Bolland's.
On average, the biggest companies are paying their chief executives 306 times as much as their lowest paid staff.
