Hong Kong’s 40 wealthiest residents are all U.S. dollar billionaires according to the latest Hong Kong Rich List by Forbes Asia. Their collective wealth came in at US$167 billion for the year 2010 which is good for an increase of US$28 billion over last year’s total. Hong Kong’s 40 richest people are worth a combined US$26 billion more than the combined 40 wealthiest mainland Chinese, who together came in at a total of US$137 billion.
Top of Hong Kong’s rich list is 82-year-old Li Ka-shing, whose wealth is measured at an estimated US$24 billion.
Second is the Kwok family with an estimated fortune of US$20 billion, up US$3 billion from last year.
Lee Shau Kee, at number three, with an estimated net worth of US$19.5 billion.
It seems the most common way for Hong Kong tycoons to make most of their money is through real estate.
