Today's Guardian has a useful list of books on Lenin, recommended by historian Helen Rapparport.
I doubt if any of those books will cover the non-marxist nature of Lenin or the non-socialist (state capitalist, in fact) nature of the Soviet Union.
The authors are well respected; they aren't communists, though, are they? Anything they have to say on communism is probably wrong.
