sweet charity and sweet fa

We previously reported on the observations upon UK poverty of one charity here , SOYMB now reads yet another charity has chosen to turn more of its attention to the UK poor .

Save the Children usually works in countries like Zimbabwe , Vietnam and Sierra Leone, but the global economic downturn has prompted a change of tack.

"Today, Save the Children is helping distribute money to families right on our doorsteps," says Colette Marshall, head of the charity's British operations. "Families in Britain are at a crisis point,"

Charities simply redistribute poverty, enabling the abjectly poor to benefit from the guilt of the moderately poor. A more cynical view is that this initative by Save the Children is simply letting the poor manage their own poverty which is cheaper than having this done by civil servants . In other words, full-time “charity workers” are in effect cheap state functionaries.

We have never denied that campaigning charities like Save the Children can, and do, help a limited number of people. Our case is that they will never solve the problem they have chosen to concentrate on.
