Global Warming Denialism

The amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere is approaching a level not seen in 15 million years, according to researchers.

There is a one-in-five chance annual global temperatures will be at least 1.5C warmer than in pre-industrial times in the next five years, experts have said.

Banks, investors and pension funds have poured billions into the world’s largest meat and dairy companies over the past five years which are  responsible for up to 30% of greenhouse gas emissions and 70% of freshwater use.

Meanwhile, Dan Brouillette, the US energy secretary, told a global summit of energy ministers, “My country is abandoning none of our fuels, and not one iota of economic opportunity, in the quest for a clean energy world.

Antonio Guterres, the UN secretary-general, told the conference “Some countries have used stimulus plans to prop up oil and gas companies that were already struggling financially."

The US has devoted at least $3bn in coronavirus bailout cash to  fossil fuel companies.
