A Socialist Declaration of Peace

Iranian Qasem Soleimani had blood on his hands. After all, he was the general in command of the Al Quds brigades. He was not one of the “good guys”. We do not grieve over the death of this butcher.

But the targetted killing of him may well lead to the deaths of many innocent people as the Iranian government seeks its revenge with reprisals, in a conflict that could so easily spiral out of control.

It is for those future victims of war that we extend our sympathy towards.

Having been elected on a pledge to withdraw America from its Middle-Eastern wars, having followed policies of sanctions against Iran rather than open war, Trump has now brought the region to the brink of another vicious war. Whether intentional or by ineptitude, Trump’s action has sparked a military escalation.

Already the people in the region has suffered enough from war-mongers. There will be some welcoming the prospect of an American-Iranian war such as the sheiks in Saudi Arabia or Israel’s Netanyahu. Islamic fundamentalists will be gleeful at the prospect for even further destabilisation of the Middle East and the distraction it offers from the other areas of their activity, for example, in North Africa.

Sensible, reasonable people will not be blowing the bugles and waving the flag but will instead will be calling for peace, not for bombs and death.

As we have done so many times in the past, the World Socialist Movement re-iterates the real issue before our fellow-workers, is the abolition of the whole social system, of which war is an integral part, and the creation of a cooperative society - socialism.

To end the threats of war we must go for its roots. We must strike at the basis of capitalism. But to do that means to abolish the system and to replace it with a world society in which all human interests are in harmony.

I hope that you have been able to hear what Bernie Sanders has been saying about how to achieve world peace. Agree to focus on fighting Climate Change instead of each other. Peace be with US.

What? This bunkum? "As the wealthiest and most powerful nation on earth, we have got to help lead the struggle to defend and expand a rules-based international order in which law, not might, makes right,” Sanders declared in a critical section of his address. "One of the most important organizations for promoting a vision of a different world is the United Nations. Former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who helped create the UN, called it “our greatest hope for future peace. "

Extremely pious soundbites and totally devoid of any understanding of both war and poverty being INEVITABLE concomitants of capitalism a social system which, "If money, according to Augier, [14] “comes into the world with a congenital blood-stain on o"ne cheek,” capital comes dripping from head to foot, from every pore, with blood and dirt.
