TAKING OVER OUR LIVES? (weekly poem)

TAKING OVER OUR LIVES?

The take-over of The House of Fraser by Mike Ashley of Sports
Direct (notorious for the poor treatment of its staff) has resulted
in 600 job losses. Its debt of £30m will not be his responsibility.

Six-Hundred set to lose their jobs,
But millionaires don't care;
As long as these financial yobs,
Increase their profits share.

We're puppets in each dodgy-deal,
Mere stooges in their game;
They don’t care how employees feel,
When they take business aim.

Entrepreneurs create our work,
Or so the legend goes;
But unemployment's just a quirk,
To keep us on our toes.

The question why our lives should be,
At others beck and call;
Is still to most a mystery,
They've not resolved at all.

Such machinations of the few,
Supposedly is for;
The benefit of me and you,
But there ain’t no such law.

They're only there for their own gain,
It's all as they think fit;
And it's quite patently insane,
Why folks put up with it.
