Quote of the Day

Speaking at the Lord Mayor’s banquet in the City, Cameron called for a culture “that values that typically British, entrepreneurial, buccaneering spirit” He said the Tories would make sure business was “promoted in schools. Taught in colleges. Celebrated in communities”.

Perhaps Cameron’s elite Eton and Oxford education did not extend to history but buccaneers were pirates and so indeed a study of thievery, pillage and plunder would indeed be a very appropriate subject to study in school for aspiring capitalists.

It is also apt that Cameron made his speech at a Lord Mayor of the City of London’s event. After all, the Lord Mayor is elected by hand-picked representatives of the banks and multi-national companies. The City of London has been described as the centre of the net of tax havens, its rules expediting tax avoidance and evasion.
