Facts of the Day

According to Global Wealth Equality, the richest 1% on the Earth have accumulated some 43% of the world's wealth, while the bottom 80% of the planet's inhabitants have just 6% between them. That means the richest 300 persons on Earth have more money than the poorest 3 billion

Wealth inequality in the United States means that  just 400 people in the US have as much in assets and income as the bottom 50% of Americans.

The divide between rich and poor does not need to be tackled, one of China’s richest pople said — as long as everyone can become wealthy. "We don't need to solve the problem of the rich-poor gap, we need to solve the problem of common prosperity," Zong Qinghou said . His family fortune is estimated at $12.6 billion. "If everyone is wealthy, society will be harmonious, and more comfortable. If we had egalitarianism... we wouldn't have enough to eat."

The last statement goes to show that even large sums of money cannot negate stupidity.

Startling statistics.
